About the hotel

The hotel was founded in 1870. The name comes from the owner's name, Hermann Deim. It is not known exactly when H. Deim became the owner of the hotel. It is believed that this happened in the first decade of the 20th century, because the hotel was included under that name in the then Šilutė county address book. However, already in 1922, the hotel and café were purchased by Mr. Haupt.

The fact that the new and subsequent owners did not change the name of the hotel indicates that the previous owner had created the image of a reliable and good hotel and café.

The hotel building most likely arose at the very beginning of the 20th century. It was connected to the courthouse building. This is clearly visible in photographs and postcards of the time (see below). Based on them, it can be stated that the buildings of the Deims hotel and café were rebuilt and reconstructed several times before World War II.

Detailed information about the activities of the hotel and café is not available. It is believed that the café could have operated on the first floor of the building, and apartments were rented on the second. One advertisement from that period indicated that the hotel had 24 places (beds), central heating, and garages. Several reliable sources testify that the Šilutė Riflemen's Association "Deims" had a shooting range in the garden of the hotel until 1920. After 1920, probably due to stricter requirements, the shooting range was liquidated.

After World War II, the hotel began operating again. From the old name "Deims Hotel", it was renamed "Nemunas", and soon the café "Žibintas" also began operating. In the post-war period, the building underwent major repairs and reconstruction. The exterior of the building changed little, and the main exterior elements of the pre-war building were retained.

Currently, the hotel is located in the very center of Šilutė, on Lietuvininkų Street. This is the only hotel in Šilutė that can accommodate up to 67 guests at a time. The hotel has 39 rooms. There are conditions for arrival by any means of transport, as the hotel is surrounded by a closed and protected territory.
